Using the setting files
From Smoothboard
The settings files is what makes the extensive Smoothboard advanced settings accessible. You can experiment with the sample settings files provided, but your Smoothboard experience will be greatly enhanced by creating your own settings files that suits your needs.

The three settings files explained
- Global settings accessed from the main window
- Presenter settings accessed from the Presenter settings
- Outside Screen Toggles accessed from the 'Ouside Screen Toggles' tab in Whiteboard settings
All three settings files need to be saved individually if changed. The global settings file only retrieves the set 'Toggles' and 'Presenter' settings file not the settings within them. So if you use the same 'Presenter' settings in two environments you can have a single file accessed by both global settings files.
Example of how to create a custom setting file
To explain this concept I will use the example I gave in multiple Wiimotes for a Whiteboard and Presenter
- A user needs to change between left, right and middle mouse clicks repeatedly:
- They map the buttons of the secondary Wiimote to:
- Left = Left Click
- Right = Right Click
- B = Double Click
- A = Centre Click
- Up = Mouse wheel scroll up
- Down = Mouse wheel scroll down
- The user calibrates the primary Wiimote to their display then sets the cursor control to 'Cursor Motion Only'
- The user uses an IR-Pen that is constantly illuminated (rather than illuminated when the tip or switch is pressed)
- They map the buttons of the secondary Wiimote to:
The user now has full control of the cursor by moving their IR-Pen arround and executes mouse click functions on demand by selecting the mapped buttons on the second Wiimote held in their non-writing hand. Click and drag is performed by moving the IR-Pen over the desired object press and hold the 'Left' button then move the IR-Pen to desired position and release 'Left' to drop the item.
Create a new Settings file
- Select 'New Settings File' from the 'File' pull down menu in the main window
- Enter a suitable file name
Select the correct mode
- Select 'Whiteboard and Presenter' in the main window
Edit Whiteboard settings
- Click 'Show Settings in the main window
- Select 'Whiteboard' in the top navgation
- Goto 'Cursor Control' tab
- Select 'Cursor Motion Only'
Edit Presenter settings
- Select 'Presenter' in the top navigation
- Map the keys as listed above
- Click 'Save As'
- Enter a suitable file name (this will be for the Presenter settings only)
Save the Global settings file
- Select 'Save Settings File' from the 'File' pull down menu in the main window
Summary
You can create settings files for very small changes like additional smoothing for when certain students are using the Whiteboard or to quickly change from a Whiteboard presenting to students to a presenter for a professional presentation to colleges. This is all done by simply selecting your pre-created settings file and all your changes are done and you are ready to go.
